Dad Died Today

Friends,

Dad'sHeadshot---1My Father passed away about 1 pm this afternoon, here at home. His condition had been deteriorating quickly. But this really caught us all off guard in terms of speed.

However, we are all in agreement that this is a blessing. He was not in pain. And he was enough of a control freak that he wouldn’t have wanted to linger.

We will be planning a memorial service at Northaven at some time soon, but those plans aren’t yet known.

As always, these posts about my Dad have a song with them. (In the first link…)

Today, it’s “Passenger Seat” by Death Cab for Cutie.”

This song reminds me of being a kid with Dad, when we had the same conversation about “shooting stars and satellites.” He loved space. He loved being a Dad, and was a great one.

I invite you to honor him with me by giving it a listen.

We love you Dad…and we miss you.

More soon.

He’s a popular preacher, and often tackles challenging issues of social justice in his writings and sermons. His wife, Judge Dennise Garcia, is a State District Judge for Dallas, County. As judge of the 303rd Family District Court, she consistently gets high ratings from area lawyers, and was named “best judge” by The Dallas Observer. She was re-elected for a fourth term in 2018. They have the world’s best daughter, Maria, and an incredible dog, Daisy.
